Thanked: 13What do you think of this?
I just found it:
Natural Beryl Polishing Stone Graver Sharpening Tool bei eBay.de: Pocket Watches (endet 12.04.11 16:22:14 MESZ)
250 Bucks is not exactly what I´d spend on an unknown hone (and I´m healed from my HAD anyway…), but I want to show it to you. Any thoughts?

It has been discussed here before: http://straightrazorpalace.com/hones...idea-what.html
I wouldn't pay 250 bucks for it.Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose. Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr.

Beryl is a very hard mineral not a rock really cause it's usually pure stuff. Beryllium Aluminum Silicate. I have a chunk of it. it actually works good as a finisher but can impart a very harsh edge. I think there are way better alternatives for razors.

Thanked: 13245More info
Brand new fine 8000 grit natural beryl... Ruby abrasive stones are made from sintered crystals of synthetic ruby. They are extremely hard, maintain their shape well and are resistant to wear. Because they are so hard they can sharpen and finish extremely hard metals such as carbide gravers, but also work on non-metal like glass, porcelain and quartz.
I looked at these sometime back also and just never pulled the trigger..
There are smaller sizes for $60-$70 out there that are 6"x1" etc:

Sorry but Beryl and Corundum are totally different minerals. Ruby is Corundum, Aluminum Oxide and Beryl is Beryllium aluminum silicate. Corundum is much harder than beryl.
