Thanked: 21Anyone tried the Suehiro 1200 stone?
I bought the Suehiro D1069 Deluxe Japanese Stone #1200 and the Norton 4000/8000 combo at Amazon. Has anyone used the Suehiro? Comments? Thoughts?

Hi Jim;
I have not tried the Suehiro stones but hear good things. It should play well with the Norton combo stone. Attached are some previous threads from SRP members.

These guy's may be refering to the "new" Suehiro Gokumyo line. I do not think these stones are available outside of Japan. GO to the SRP hone section forum and type in Suehiro and hit search. More info there. I hopr this is some help.

I have not tried the stone you are asking about.
However, I just wanted to inform you that the stones Modine are referring to, is actually available outside of Japan Now.
I have recently ordered a Suehiro Gokumyo GMN200 from this site here in Europe: japan-messer-shop - Index
My German is not what it used to be, but it seems they are the only shop outside Japan to sell these stones.
It seems they have quite a range of these stones.Last edited by Birnando; 04-08-2011 at 05:43 PM.

Thanked: 19Hi. I have one of these D1069 Suehiro stones and it sets an adequate bevel, pretty well polished for the grit rating, but I have only used it on a few razors and they needed minor resets no real chips or damage. Noting remarkable, much like many lower to mid-range synthetic water stones, Naniwa SS 1K, Norton 1K. Does swarf up a bit quickly like the Naniwa SS, Gives some feedback, but not a great amount. I would say the stone is worth the price, but do not expect not miracles. It measures ~2 1/2 x 8 x 1 1/4" , very thick, and needs lots of water. The Amazon sizes listed do not match the stone in my hand. Even after soaking overnight in a plastic container the water needed to be refreshed quite frequently. It was easy enough to lap and is brown in color. It looks like the picture in the Amazon listing, but not the sizes listed. I hope this helps.
Update, did two that needed re-beveling this morning and it did fine. Same other comments.Last edited by natchez; 04-12-2011 at 04:33 PM.
