The best advice I can give you is to try to use no more pressure on the stone than the weight of the blade. Also, if you edge is close to where you like it work in small increments of 3-5 X strokes to try to dial the edge to where you want it. You might also consider trying some Chromium Oxide or .5 diamond after using it as well.

    Have fun,

There is no reason at all why you shouldn't be able to get a great shaving edge off it. Heck you should be able to get a really good shaving edge off the 8K alone. Rather than worry about more stones learn to master what you have. Just follow Lynn's advice and with practice you should do fine.

I have a Kitiyama 8000. It plays well in my mish-mosh of synthetics stones. It's plenty wide and gives good feedback. I soak for 15min you don't have to but I do then form slurry with a DMT1200. I use x strokes or straight full length passes on it. You can do circles if you want, no hard and fast rules there. It's a great 8K stone.
