    Default Business trip find

I had to be in Alexandria VA this week on business so I decided to walk the streets and drop into a few antique stores. No joy looking for Razors, but I did find a small barbers hone. The box indicates it is a Carborundum #104 and the box is in fine shape. It is small, only 2 inches X 3 inches so I think it qualifies as a pocket hone better than the others I have looked at. I cleaned it up with soap in the hotel room and I don't think the wash rag I was using will ever be the same.

I think my Boss Barber's hone is about 4 - 6k grit and this one may be closer to 8 - 10K. I don't know grit very well yet, but from researching here that is what I find. Anyway it put a nice edge on my latest razor. I had honed it with my other barbers hone last week but it wasn't quite keen enough yet so I decided to try it on my new hone and boy am I glad I did. Very smooth shave. Name: carb3.jpg

I've had Carborundum razor hones and found them to quite usable --- I liked them best with a bit of lather, just like the manufacturer recommended. Try some circles with lather, wipe it off gently, then go right to your face.
Don't get hung up on hanging hairs.
