Thanked: 2Coticule
I have honed a few razors with the naniwa stones and have had good results . I thought I would have a go with a coticule . My question is do people useually lap them every time they use them .

Thanked: 3795That is absolutely not necessary. The coticules constantly refresh their own surfaces by releasing grit, so the surface does not glaze over. They are hard enough that they take a long time to dish. For those two reasons, they rarely need to be lapped.

Thanked: 4942Agree. The only real dishing I have had with Coticules has been from using nagura stones or Coticule rubbng stones to generate slurry. I usually just rinse off the slurry when I'm done or sometimes if it's just slurry from honing a couple razors, I'll leave it there.
Have fun,
Lynn

Also coticules are usually hard, and dish slow. You won't have to flatten a coti too often.

Thanked: 1Agreed! Being a newb i've had to put quite a few miles on my coti. i did flatten it yesterday, but it took less than a couple of minutes. It probably wasn't completely necessarily but i was having a hard time putting an edge on a razor and wanted to make sure to eleminate all variables.

Hey,
I usually only rub the slurry stone on the ends of the stone that way it could possibly prolong the time between lappings, not sure if it actually works cause i'm very new.
