It's very difficult to measure natural stones in grits. Especially Japanese, which can change their grit within one hour, depending on nagura, which you use at the moment. By the way, I use C12K as nagura stone with one of my Nakayama stone. Fantastic result. Strongly recomend.

Are there any differences to the Naniwa 12k that comes with the stand and the thicker 12k stone with no stand? The only difference I see is the color.

Thanked: 4I have the Norton 4k/8k combo, and I also have a chinese stone. My personal experience with the C12 is not really good. I get better results finishing my razors with the Norton 8k than with the C12. I seriously consider buying the Naniwa 12k.
Since the C12 is rock hard, it is really good to get a nice edge on my kitchen knives.

I went ahead and picked up the Naniwa in the thicker stone. I got a great deal on it and cant wait to try out honing for the first time.

I own a Chinese "River Rock" stone, in 12K, I'm pretty sure that's the stone you blokes are refering to?? Any way, I use it after my Norton 4k/8k and it does work and if I ever get the money I will buy a Naniwa and let you good fellow's know which I prefer!!! I have a feeling that I will like the Naniwa better, so here's my Pitch, : any one have a used Naniwa in that grit they would like to sell me at a good discount?? [just kidding, ..............not really]
Thanks for letting me ramble on like this,
As every yours tinkersd or SRP

Hello,
I prefer Naniwa. It has softer and easier touch. Softer stone = easier to hone. I tried with Chinese couple of months and decided to get Naniwa. For me Naniwa works better than a C12K.
