I will finally own a Norton 4k/8k
Big ups to Jimmy, though I bet I'm one of the last people he'd have expected would buy it off him.
I've used the Nortons at various meets, and I used to have a 1k as my bevel setter, but I have never actually owned a 4k or 8k. For quite some time I've wanted to, and but it's always been a matter of "I have the Naniwas, so I don't NEED (to spend more money on the) Nortons.
Leave it to Jimmy to make my dreams come true!

Thanked: 1371I think one of the conditions was that you need to set a bevel on a Frederick Reynolds wedge using only the 8k side.
Didn't Jimmy mention that???

They are cool hones Dylan, as you know. I have a special fondness for them because I learned on the Nortons and they work. Glad you are finally getting one of your own.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Cool! How do they compare to the naniwas? Harder? Faster?
I've got the Shaptons and Naniwas so I'm in the same boat and never felt the need to get the Nortons. I've thought about it but I'm well set up right now so not gone for them yet.

I liked the Norton very much, great stone overall, and very good value for the money. My only problem was the porousness of the 4k, the 8k side is awesome. If you use it regularly, than the soaking takes only a few minutes, because your stone never dries out too much.

Now you can hone some of my razors on the Nortons as well.
