Thanked: 0Buying a hone in the UK
Any recommendations on places to buy hones within the UK? I'm thinking of getting a 4k/8k Norton to refresh my current straight and maybe start bringing a few back from the dead, however most hones I seem to find are for knives and I'd hate to spend money on one when it's not going to do what I need. I have no knowledge or experience of razor hones beyond what I've read on the net so your wisdom would be appreciated!

Steve Dempster sells the Naniwa stones via www.theinvisibleedge.co.uk and that's what I'd go for.
They don't need soaking and they wok very well on razors as they aren't too aggressive. I have a set and they work great!
I haven't got a set of Nortons so I'm not sure where best to get them in the UK.

+1 on Steve at The Invisible edge, offers a great choice and service to match. Neil Miller's worth a look too, at www.strop-shop.co.uk - hand made straight razor strops, razor pouches, shaving accessories, vintage razors, razor honing and restoration.

The Naniwas are very nice, if the price isn't too high for you I would go with them. The superior shave is much cheaper, with international shipping included.

A Polish seller on eBay, eBay My World - open_razor seems good on the very fine Chinese hones and some others. Being the the European Community you don't have to worry about import duty. Mine hasn't arrived yet, but he made an unasked refund on overpaid postage. It was only $1.50, but a very encouraging sign.
