New Hone Uchigurmori
Well, I gotta say this old dog has learned a new trick. I have been a Norton's/King stone guy with some touch up with an Enders to keep the razors going..I needed something better every since I tried a DE and noticed that my straights were sub standard. I was cruizing sleaze bay and saw some Japanese water stones that were sold by a fellow that resides in California. They looked interesting so I went to his site and checked his other stuff out ( TheJapanBlade.com )...I was pretty impressed and was amazed at some of the beatiful stones he had and the history that he careful annotated on each one. He was definetly a guy who loves his stones....So, any way I really couldn't afford some of them (750 - 2000 range)but he had some cheaper end ones also...If you call 125.00 cheap. I don't, but man was it a beautiful stone! I had to get it! Now for the bad news..I dont' have picutures yet...I know, I am scum... But i had to tell someone about the stone and couldn't wait to take a picture that would do it justice. Now, the result of a quick sharpening with just water was amazing! It was one of the best shaves I have had in quite a while! ...I highly reccomend this fellow's stones. Check him out, you won't regret it!

The stone is fantastic! Better than anything I have ever used before. I didn't know what I was missing all these years . It is a super smooth stone tha cuts suprisingly fast. What surprised me was that I only needed to use the stone with.no slurry, strop using only my Latino finish strop and my Wacker was back to lazier edge... Now, saying that. I have to caveat by sayingthati am nota hone miester, but I have honed my own, and had pro honedstr8s...I will get pics in the morn.

Thanked: 3795He has a particular stone I have been lusting after for 3 long years. I have spent a lot on rocks. My wife has been extremely tolerant of the ones she knows about, but there is no way I could sneak this one past her.

I fially got the pics!
She is beautiful! Looks better with water on it..This is from the ebay ad..It looks even better in person. I have definitely got the bug after buying this one! I am not an expert though...Is this a good one to have? I mean I saw some of those stones go for a ton of money (more than my Ford costs)...But, I think this thing hones like a dream..If mine is awesome, I can't even imagine what those high dollar ones can do..

Thanked: 2591For Jnats, price includes size, uniformity, grit fineness and speed of the stone. Some of the big stones are so expensive because they are
very good stones. Many resellers sell at prices that can make you cry especially if you know what the stone is actually worth in Japan.
You really need to test a stone before you pay the big cash for it to make sure you are getting what you are looking for and not an expensive rock that does not work for you.
Is your stone good or not only you can tell because all that matters is that you like the edge of it.
You can have it evaluated, but still how you like the stone and the edges off it is what counts.
I would suggest to lacquer your stone because of the crack in the corner on the bottom side.Stefan

Congrats. You have a unique stone there.
Uchigumori is generally not used for razors but more commonly used for polishing swords etc.
That's the beauty of nature tho, each stone is an individual. The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

The fellow's web site had mentioned that he had shaved off of this stone. That stones like this were set aside for barbers in Japan. .. I must say that it is extremely smooth and reacts very well to my str8ts. I guess igot lucky.

Alex is a member here. His stones are amazing to look at and read about. I recently was fortunate to purchase a beautiful Japanese stone dated to the 1920's and I am liking it more and more. I doubt there is another stone site with the kind of detail and respect for the history of the stones than Alex's. I enjoy his blog and the great pictures of his Japan trips.
