Thread: Is this a Yellow/ Green Escher?

Just got this on the bay. The photos are from the auction. The stone is 5"X 2.5" X 5/8"

Wondering if this is a Yellow/Green Escher.

Maybe. Hard to tell from photos but it does look like a Y/G or a Light Green.

Either way it'll be an awesome stone. You need to learn how to use it, your blade needs to be at maximum sharpness to get the great effect of an Escher finisher.

Disburden, does that mean that an escher would work well after a typical coticule, or should one go even higher in "grit" before moving to an Escher?

I've followed a coticule with an Escher with very good results. OTOH, sometimes I want the 'feel' of a coticule shave.

I saw that on Ebay, Pricey little bugger, wasn't it....Great stone though, I use my Escher pretty much exclusively these days....
I leave mine out, and maybe that's the problem. I don't feel like breaking out 3, 4, or 5 different stones, when one can do the job. I just maintain my own blades.

Everyone has their own routine. I rarely, unless there's damage, have to come off any stone prior to my Escher. I raise a good slurry on my mine, and do about 3 sets, diluting to plain water at the end, and my blades are fantastic. Like Glen's "One Stone Honing" YMMV. Every stone is a bit different.

In any case, Escher is wonderful stone, It's no wonder they are so valuable today, and prized by Barber's back in the day.

The pics are bad, On Ebay, it looked brown to me.

The higher you leave off,the better the escher is imo. If you go coticule to escher you will love it. But if you go prepolisher jnat or a shapton 16k to escher you may see its even better. Try it out for yourself and see what you like.
