Does make one appreciative modern abrasives, can you imagine pre-synthetic abrasive aged craftsmen lapping novaculite?
I don't think he was using the word "special" late in the 2.5 hours, somehow.

You overpaid for your hone and wasted all this time lapping it. I can get the exact same result with any 'ebay special'

Well, it sounds like you went the long way around, but you've got a dead flat PHIG now so ultimately it's worth the trouble.

The large one is superior, very nice and sharp edges off it, yet quite smooth. I think I got a good one.
I'm glad I'm not the only one
The time actually goes fast for the first hour and a half. but by then you can see results anyway so you keep on going!
It dose seem like a nice stone though.. I have a few blades coming so she will get a work out soon!

Anyway, Now that i have both sides lapped.. from what i have been reading people like to have a polished surface on these stones... Has anyone tried leaving one side rough (finished with a 120 grit DMT) and one side polished (finished with a 320-600DMT)??

I only lapped one side on mine, I see no reason to do the other side, it's flat enough to sit nicely in a stone holder.
I have polished mine further with 400-600-1200 wet/dry paper, and 15 minutes with the BBW side of a coticule.

I think you will find that the best polishing will be achieved from the side of your stone that is the smoothest but you will have fun experimenting what works best for you.

No doubt you will find that slurries made from a small piece of the same stone or even other naturals will greatly expand the use and speed of your stone. Many times in our classifieds at SRP one can be had inexpensively and it is highly recommended. Over time the slurry stone will leave a perfect finish on your stone that will impart great edges.
