    Angry Chinese 12k stone - Over 2.5 hours to lap ! ! !

I purchased one of these chinese 3" x 8" 12k stones that came in the mail today

It took me over 2.5 hours to get this stone lapped! What a pain in the (you know what)

Wow they are a hard stone and there is NO way i'm going to go through that again! lol

Anyway i took photos of each stage so you can see how far out this thing was.

Just out of curiosity, did you try the other side? Usually one side will take less work than the other. First thing I always do is check both sides, and then I pick which one I'll actually lap. If that was the closer side, that was pretty unlucky.

    The bottom was Really bad!!!

I had to lap that as well or it wouldn't sit flat on my rubber mat - it kept rocking lol.

There is no way you could lap the bottom flat by hand. just enough to make it sit flat was en effort.

Holy big cow, that looked like a lot of work.

For the bottom, is it possible to just park it on a belt sander to flatten it?

I just a little surprised the stone was SO out of shape. I thought they were supposedly lapped flat before sale. Apparently not so much.
