    Default Crazy Idea....Mother's Billet Polish

Hi all, been awhile. Life's gotten busy again...I even missed the Mid MO gathering

I got a call a day or two ago from a fellow scissor sharpener and he mentioned he was trying something unconventional to "finish" the shears on: Mother's Billet Polish. Of course we use machines but there are some similarities. I tried some, and YIKES!!!! when put on a spinning felt pad it produces an edge that, in my opinion, surpasses .50 Poly Diamond noticeably. (.25 Poly Diamond didn't get a fair test) I know we have some paste gurus here and I'd love for some others to try it out on razors. (I've not got around to it yet, but will soon.) Don't know if it's AlOx or CeOx. It's white. I paid around $15 and is a rather "wet" paste...about the consistency of Proraso shave cream.

What impressed me wasn't the keenness, after all I'm a member of the SRP world, but the smoothness. (Most anything is smooth compared to diamond, however)

I'll be trying it in the next few days and thought it would be good to have several "tests" going on simultaneously.

Of course, if this is old news or objectionable for some reason let me know

That sounds like a good abrasive paste to try. What substrate are you going to use? Felt/leather paddle strop or ..........?

I have used it in the past as a strop paste, but lost interest in pastes in general. I don't remember why, but I will have to revisit to discover that sometime.

Was the felt pad spinning when you used it on the razor?
Or is a "spinning felt pad" a type of pad that you used in the conventional, non-spinning way?

EDIT: Never mind, I see that you were talking about using it on shears.
