Default Lapping a Chosera 1K with a Shapton DGLP??

    Newbie question here...

So after reading a bit at SRP, I bought a shave ready razor as my first razor and a 16k Shapton to do touch-ups with. Then, in a fit of madness, I also sprang for the Shapton DGLP. I love it, but it was pricey. This setup has been working great for 8 months.

Okay, so I got infected with RAD and I now find myself in possession of a bunch of razors in various states (but only a couple of them shave ready).

Now I want to learn to hone properly. I had planned to get the Shapton Glass Stone 1-4-8 progression. Subsequently I have read that most people (Lynn, not least notably!) prefer the Chosera 1k over the Shapton 1k for bevel setting.

Sorry for the long set-up, but here's the question:

Can I lap the Chosera 1k with the Shapton DGLP? or am I going to have to get another lapping plate for the Chosera? Because if so, I may just suffer with the Shapton 1k as a bevel setter, which will keep my life simpler and it will also be cheaper. And I would feel like an idiot for springing for the DGLP only to subsequently discover that I need yet another lapping plate.

Thanks very much in advance for the advice!

    Warm regards,

    Mark

    Thanks, Sham!

I was hoping that was the case, but after reading Chrisl's experience with ruining his DGLP lappping non-Shapton stones (or perhaps having gotten a defective one), I was nervous. And the Shapton DGLP warrantee is invalidated if you lap non-Shapton stones on them. But as long as you say it's a minimal risk, I'm going for the Chosera. (:

I've watched your videos on the half-moon stroke a bunch of times and am really looking forward to trying it out with my smiley razors.

Again, your kind reply is most appreciated.

    Best regards,

    Mark

I love the GDLP lapping plate. Tis pricey as you say, but it is just so nice to use. It definitely works fine on the Naniwa 1K Chosera.

    Have fun.

Well, with both Lynn and Sham weighing in unequivocally (and on the same side of the issue), I would have to say my question is answered.

    Thank you both, gentlemen!
