Thanked: 62If you can afford it go for the DMT D8c. Works great for lapping, will always stay flat (the Naniwa and the Norton lapping plates will eventually need to be lapped themselves) and is all around useful. The DMT is my single most used hone.

Right now, I'm using a Black Arkansas (dry), followed up by a translucent Arkansas (also dry). I'm wondering if I need to add a finer stone to really get a decent edge.

Thanked: 0I just my Naniwa Combo Super Stone 3000/8000 on today.all i need to just to get is the Naniwa Super Stone 1000 and a DMT D8c or do i need more of a finer grit finishing than the 8k i just got or will that do?

Or you could do what many of the others of us have done and get one of everything, or two. Lynn has honed a few razors, so I think before buying one of everything you could try his advice... and then get one of everything. Gotta watch it, though, these ADs can get vicious.
