Got this unmarked Koma maybe a month ago, and picked it up from DHL (???) on Tuesday... Talk about efficiency and value for money eh!
The only mark is the "sword" kanji you see on the side. Again, very grateful to Cotiga for having sent the smaller piece earlier, so I have a benchmark. It is indeed a Koma, this one. I did not get it to hone on, nor to use as nagura, but perhaps my polishing project can soon continue. Of course, I couldn't resist lapping it a bit and trying on a razor. :)
That's a big piece of rock. If it's both fine cutting and fast, you're very lucky to have found it.
It's one thing to sharpen something, but another entirely to try to make a large area look perfect.
Nakayama maruichi. At least I hope it is since these days who knows. The stamps are faded so it's not a freshly stamped one.
Dont ask me how it performs:) When it came my wife liked it so much with the stamps that she asked if she could keep it.

You should be verrrry lucky to have it... Well yes of course also the hone -but more than this- the wife who likes hones so much!!! Buy some more!
Here's a nice small and irregular piece of very high grade Nakayama kiita on a fitted stand. The stone is harder than you'd think from it's yellow color, and it's finer than you'd think from it's hardness. The streak of nashiji (pearskin) also has a pinkish tint to it that isn't easy to see in the images. It's also fast. Always glad to have one of these in the shop. First test shave tomorrow but HHT 4-5 - mostly 5, promises a good shave.
Cheers, Steve
Steve,
I have a similar stone with the Nashiji patterning and it produces amazing edges with the most amazing mixture of smooth and keen. Congrats on a great stone! I have really enjoyed working with mine so far. Discovering the little nuisances of each stone is the best part of naturals, well and the edges too! Haha. I hope you get a great shave with it.
Hey. I know this is an old post, but the stamps on the top stone are the exact ones that I have on my stone. I’ve been trying to sort them out. I know the one is Nakayama Awasedo but I was hoping you might be able to tell me what the other stamps are? Any idea? Thanks.
