Default 220/1000 grit norton wet stone

Is it alright if I use the 220 side to lap my 4000/8000 norton? Also, how often will I need to lap the 220 side if I use it solely for lapping?

After the initial flattening, you can keep your 4k and 8k flat/deswarfed with the 1k side of your 250/1k combo. It leaves a nicer surface.

If you need to lap the 220 Norton, it can be done with 80 grit sandpaper on a glass plate. It can take a while.

YMMV? i actually found low grit sandpaper on glass plate much faster than the actual norton lapping stone. However i never thought to use the 220 side of the 220/1000 combo. I tend to deswarf with one of those nylon scouring pads.
