    Default My New Stone

This just arrived this morning. Was my first foray into acquiring an Ebay stone.

How'd I do? What'd I get? The seller said that, to the best of his knowledge, this was a Thuringian.

You need to lap it to reveal the stone's surface. I doubt it is a Thuringian, as the boxes that they come in are usually hinged - yours looks like a homemade box. I could be wrong. As I said, please lap it and pos new pictures. Let us know what colour the slurry is and the dimensions of the stone.

Looks like one of the Czech stones AJ is selling at Ebay. I doubt as well they are Thuringians, because of how they look and they're being described as very hard. They're not expensive so let us know how it performs.

Yeah, that's who it was that I got it from, AJ.

Czech stone? If it's the black slate hone from there, it's supposed to be finer than the rozsutec. With water, and it is an oilstone. This will be the next stone I'll buy, directly from a seller there. Waiting for your opinion of the stone.

I do think that seller is reputable. I've had good experiences with him. Maybe it is a Thurri....maybe it's not. Hopefully it will yield a smooth edge. Only one way to find out. If you want a second opinion, I'd be more than happy to hone a couple on it for testing.

If you talking about Suchacek ten be warned not all his stones are decent for razors. They often have hard inclusions. I do have one small one 140x40mm which is very fine and finer than Rozsutec however that one was handpicked by frien of mine who visited the stone cutter himself and hand picked one for me. i had since then more than dozen in my hands and only minimum would be up to consistent razor honing.
With the hones from the ebay seller I have good personal experience however so many hones of same or simmilar size???? I do not know. I was tempted first but then I decided not to go to it. Let us know your experience.
Also from his writting I would not be surprised if he is member here.

Thanks, I'll do the lapping this evening. My DMT 325 should be alright for this, right?

    The stone measures 7 13/16" x 1 7/8" x 3/4" (198mm x 48mm x 18mm).
