Diamond hones
Following the honemiester's suggestion I bought a dmt fine and extra fine combo in 8x3 inch and found that they are unbelievable.
I use them for removing chips and also on crooked blades. Rarely have to use anything but the extra fine.
The advantage I have found is they remove metal faster than a 220 norton or 500 shapton but leave a much smoother finish. I go from that to the 1000 grit and then finish as usual with the finer stones.
HERE IS THE TRICK KIDS!!!
THEY MUST BE BROKEN IN.
Do this by taking an old useless blade that is hopeless and work with it about fifteen min. and all of a sudden it will get smooth as silk and four or five razors later it just keeps getting better. When you start it feels like you are using a brick and you think about giving up but alas...with t little patients you will see.
Like I said...Lynn suggested this stone.

Too late, I have learned this the hard way. I made huge scratches on one of my favorite blades. I used a 1200grit plate, and it scratched the surface like a 60 grit one. Then it got smoother.
