Thanked: 247Hindostan hone review?
Did anybody ever post the hindostan hone review? and if so, what's the trick to finding it? I'm pretty sure I got one. This rock is hard as heck to lap, but smooth as glass. I'm almost certain it's a hindostan, but I'm too new to tell anybody if it's any good. I'd love to hear some comments from people who have, use, or have used the hindostan hone regarding it's quality as a finishing stone, and just overall opinion of it. Thanks in advance. If you want to see the hone, I posted it in show and tell under "three old hones, three old questions". Perhaps it should be moved to this category, but it was a new acquisition, and I'm a new guy...who usually does things wrong a few times before I get it right. Sorry for the screw up.

As far as I know, there are no reviews regarding the hindostan stone here. The stone you have does look like a hindostan, the yellow-brown colour and the characteristic sedimentary layers. They were used for wood curving tools. Very fine, very hard, oilstone, novaculite, simmilar to the translucent arkansas. Straight Razor Final Polsihing Stone here is one, you can see the pictures and the description. It is supposed to be a very good stone.

Thanked: 247Roughkype: Yep, that's the ones. I've read as much as I can find about them on here, and followed all the links people posted. But when reading the threads, there had been talk of an impending review. The posts were from 2010 though, and nothing got said about them. I'm guessing they might not have been as great as people hoped. There was even a member who was making some for awhile. I've done all the research I'm capable of it seems. I PM'ed one person today who had two of them, to find out his opinions. I'm too new to make any statement about it myself.

I agree for Mr Miller. Those stones are quite rare, and on their auctions, they are sold for high prices, they should worth their cost. Since you have one, keep it, it might be a very good stone. And, if it's not, although I doubt it, it's a beautiful extraordinary looking one.
