I might of lead you done the wrong road, maxim207 says defiantly not. The stone I have also makes a sandy sound when honing and sucks up water like crazy, unlike the coticule. Our stones may not be the same, but the characteristics are similar . It has a velvet like feel and is finer than my Thurigian by at least 3 or 4K. I look at my razors under a 40 power microscope, between stones. I don't know how fine Coticules get but what I have read about 10K without a slurry. What I know and a buck will get you a cup of coffee
