Thanked: 9Sorry for returning this thread back to life after such a long time (just in case I am bothering someone kk)
WOW! Gelatin also... We were having just about enough with shellac and resin!
This link is not working anymore, any backups available? Just googled it with no results :-(
I am naturally curious (yep: The internet is and endless path to nowhere for people like me) and probably not the most skilled guy around for trying these things. Where I live I can get shellac, very fine powder (alumina, chromium oxide, cerium oxide, and probably others) but very fine whetsones are difficult (though not impossible) to get. Thus: If this try has had any advance it would be great to know!

There are several People experimenting since some years now to reproduce Barber Hones with Abrasive content...
It looks that this process works well, but actually it seems that not everything is completely devoloped to the max. If everything would be perfect iam sure there would be some available examples around already.███▓▒░░.RAZORLOVESTONES.░░▒▓███

Thanked: 481Something tells me in the case of self made barber hones either A: the people doing it aren't interested in fully developine it, B: there's no profit, or C: they're doing the same thing we do with hones to begin with - testing and tweaking and forever chasing that %1, never satisfied with the result.
My guess? Most likely a combination of B and C, but mostly C. I actually contacted someone about barber hones he'd successfully made just to see how well they worked. His report boiled down to: "they did pretty good, but I have other ideas I want to test and haven't had time to get back to it."
I've been wanting to tinker with it myself. Maybe I can talk my buddy into letting me fire some ceramics in his kiln this summer, and I can try some clay bound hones.

Thanked: 23Any experiment requires time and money thrown.
If you get good stones so easy then and it would make all.
I think that we give up too easily.
