Thanked: 1bought my first hone kit and believe I am now set
I bought my first hone kit, slightly used from a seller on B&B. It wasn't a steal at $150 including shipping, but I think fair for used goods in comparison to new pricing.
1. DMT 325 Coarse-(for lapping stones)
2. Norton 220/1K Combo Stone With Case-(setting bevels)
3. Norton 4K/8K Combo Stone With Case-
4. Chinese 12K With Norton Case-
5. Nagura Slurry Stone-
6. Bausch + Lomb Hasting Triplet Magnifier 20X With Pouch-(checking edge for even honing)
I have spent time in the SRP library, reading about honing techniques, and watching the hone video's. The youtube vid's really bring it all home. Looking forward to seeing how I do as a novice honer......
Also ordered are .5 micron diamond slurry spray and leather and felt strop. I requested the felt strop be set up separately with its own top snap and swivel bar so I can spray one side with .5 micron for periodic stroping on the side sprayed with .5 micron diamond.
I have 3 old razors to hone up: ERN Crown and Sword 11/16 "Barbers Favorite", 5/8 Wostenholm "pipe" and a Paul Kohl "Fisher". I will post how I make out.

That is the bomb!! Exactly what I have, with the exception that I had to buy each one seperate (I dont have the 1k norton tho).
That is perfect for beginning. Perfect!

Nice set! You should be good forever, unless you get HAD which I think you will since you bought so many stones to start with!

By looking at his first order(kit), I'd say the RAD has gained a foothold already.

Thanked: 1I hope I don't get HAD. SRAD is bad enough. Already, I have 3 straights and have an eye out for a stainless steel razor, INOX or Friodur preferably.

Oh man!! You're a goner, fasten your seatbelt and hold on! A fellow sufferer of this awful, er, well, enjoyable affliction. Regards, Howard

I saw that posting...definitely a steal! The fridour and stainless will be a good challenge, while I haven't attempted one myself, everything I read is that they can be a bit trickier to hone. Enjoy!
