Should I be concerned that it has a coarser grit? Or should I not worry because it claims to be a "barber hone?"

Thanked: 275I have a Boss barber hone, and wasn't happy with the edge it gave me. I think it's around 8K grit, based on how it sharpened and comparing it to an 8K Norton with a loupe.
I've had better results from an Amalgamite barber hone, which looks finer under the 10x loupe.
I've seen a brand-by-brand list of "equivalent grits" for barber hones, but can't find it now.

PS -- if somebody says that "not getting a good edge off an 8K stone" shows that my technique is bad, I wouldn't argue.

Thanked: 247Hi,
I'm the one selling it. If you have any questions or need more pics, send me a PM. Pretty sure I can't talk about it on the open forum. This works nicely for you, cause now you can research me as well as the hone. I'm pretty new, but went hone crazy real early, and am trying to sell some of them.

Haha.... be careful, man... I posted pics of a hone I saw on the Bay and asked a question about it, without even mentioning it was from ebay, and a few people flew into a black rage about the whole thing, saying stuff like, "You shouldn't post pictures from a live auction!" and "Someone might have been watching that and hoping to get a good deal!" and "Now everyone's going to bid on it!" and "There's sand in my panties!" and "My feelings are hurt!" and "I was the one watching this and now I'm afraid others will bid on it, but I'm going to write an ambiguous comment where I'm seemingly looking out for other people who buy things on auction sites!"
I think you'll probably be safe though, since it's a barber's hone. If it were something more rare though? Perhaps a Charnley Forest??? People would cry.

Boss barbers are perfectly good hones, they just require a finer finishing hone afterwards, but it will put an edge back on a dull razor in just a few laps.
I think they are great hones, IMO.
M-- Any day I get out of bed, and the first thing out of my mouth is not a groan, that's going to be a good day --
