    Smile Charnley Forest Timeline

    Wondering if some of our hone statisticians/historians could provide approximate quarry/production timelines for the Charnley Forest in the (genre) general size of 8 to 9 3/4 inch x 2 to 2 1/2 inch size in their own wooden cases. Thanks!

    Regards,

    Howard

    It will be quite difficult as the first hones were more built as single piece hacked and ground in home workshops rather than cut in big serries in proper workshop. The latest hones then show sighs of being more mass produced. Also not all quarries are known. (if you know more I am quite keen to hear about it).
    It is in my experience possible to see differences how the CF shape developed through the time. They started as more oval/ eliptic shape and finished as now normal rectangular shape at the end of production.

    I'm thinking Neil Miller is your best bet for that info if it is out there. If he doesn't reply to this thread soon send a PM to him and if anyone has the answers to the history of ancient British stones he does.
    Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

    Logistics,
    Thanks, that's very informative! I know I've read some threads or some other sources about CF's, but it all kind of jumbles up in the head with coti's, thuri's and the like making a hodgepodge of useless info. I'll hold onto this article. THANKS AGAIN!!

    +1 on asking Neil Miller, he is an authority on British naturals. Stepan who posts here as Adrspach is likely to be able to help. I believe the man quarries his own Charnleys. A_S too may help, but I am not sure if he is active here any longer.

    If anyone is curious, I found this article on a blog. Adrspach commented on this blog back in June 2011 at the bottom of the page.

    ::EDIT::

    A S posted this on SRP back on 2009.
