Author gives instructions on preparing linen strop. Coat with cottonseed oil, rub with glass bottle, then lead pipe. Never oiled a canvass - does it work?

And he thinks the shark hide is the best.

    Thanks for the link.

Others have said they existed but I don't know anyone who's tried one. If we have any fishermen here perhaps we could make one.

Shark skin probably would make a great pre-leather strop. Sharkskin has a light abrasive quality to it. People have been using it as fine sandpaper for hundreds if not thousands of years.

I know you didn't know, but this neat article has been in the Likiwary for a year and a half! Reposting it on the forum does give you several thousand extra points though, so take heart

If anyone wants to read through it as a straight pdf instead of whatever it is that scribd uses, they can do that here: File:Essay On Barbers' Razors, Razor Hones, Razor Strops And Razor Honing.pdf - Straight Razor Place Wiki

And if anyone has ideas on how to make the cool stuff like this that's already in the Wikrary more findable and/or visable, please contact one of our fantastic library development team members!

yeah, and we talked about the shark thing too. but don't think anyone talked about the cottonseed oil on the canvass strop. has anyone tried that?

Well, now I know: I need rubbers and lead pipes. Apparently overshoes and tasps just won't do. A day, when one learns nothing, has been wasted. So I'm definitely ahead of the game today.

It's very common on the handgrip of military swords.
