You did a great job cleaning it up, Martin; great price also.

Well it just might be!! The color looks right, the banding or layers on the side definately, if its really hard to lap and produce a finish edge somewhere around 12k give or take you got yourself a Hindostan, Enjoy!!

It was a pain to lap for sure!! I haven't tried it as finisher yet.

    Yes Sir,
I have picked up several Carborundum stones for my knives, a few barber hones & got my first PHIG last week.
I got the PHIG from WoodCraft. I used the PHIG last night to refresh a razor and used it on another to experiment a little. I will not know the results until tomorrow morning when I shave.

    The 2 razors:
A W&B Celebrated that I got earlier last year, used until it needed refreshing; put it away instead to enjoy new arrivals. It had a progression of Norton 4/8-----Shapton 16000-----Strop, prior to last night. I did a grid on the PHIG and flattened twice with a DMT 325. I decided to slurry the PHIG with the DMT and 15 X strokes; then cleaned the PHIG with the DMT, then 15 X strokes
with only a damp PHIG------------then strop. This was the experiment.

The second razor is a GEORGE WOSTENHOLM & SON - SHEFFIELD Pipe Razor, last honed on a Shapton 16000, it has been in the rotation for a few months, refreshed with 12 x strokes on a damp PHIG----------then strop.

    Stone of recent purchase: Carborundum 112 x4, 118, 124, 117, 183-Slip
    Norton MB7, MB8,
    Norton Koenig B-Hone, Diamond King B-Hone, Pike Strop/Hone B-Hone

    O.K.,
Sounds like my shave tomorrow could be a little rough, at 15 strokes. I will hit the PHIG another 60 strokes if that is the case and see what happens.
    Thank you for the info.
