    Default Beginner to Honing

Just bought a set of Nortons Whipped Dog Straight Razor Shaving Equipment

I need a guide of some sort to get me started. I've NEVER honed before. What grit to start with and I guess I need to soak the hone? Just need a guide beginning to end. Links help as well as advice!

I do not know if what you bought was lapped before shipped to you, so you may need to lap the stones before you hone on them.
Once lapped soak for 10-15 min in water , and start honing.
From there on you have to learn proper honing technique, i.e. correct stroke, pressure , when to move to the next grit etc.
Honing is great fun and I am sure you will enjoy it.
You can search youtube for razor honing videos and watch to get an idea how it is done.
For starters here is a video by Lynn, in it he explains how to use Norton stones.

At the top of the honing forum is a red sticky thread all about honing with "Norton stones" there is so much info in that one thread it is staggering there are even videos about Lapping Nortons..

DO NOT follow the lap counts etc: in there though, if you bought the cut down Nortons.. You journey is going to be a bit more "Fun"

Haha, I love that "DO NOT follow the lap counts" line... I would have followed it with "....for the love of Christ."
