In the past used a diamond plate in the 1200 grit range that leaves quite a scratch pattern that does require some work on the progression to remove, but for a damaged razor they work great removes metal fast in comparasion to the norton 1k.

The more you use a diamond plate, the finer its scratch pattern gets. a new 1200 grit plate cuts like a 400 grit stone. And I hate that, but they are the fastest.
There is a break in period with all diamond plate, but they last a long time without any lapping and such...... i had my 3 dmt
for woodworking tools for a long time and so far i can see that they will outlive me, and i got a lot more years to go, they are just that good.
Actually a friend got me going with DMT's he his a teacher in traditional woodworking and uses a set of dmt for chisels and planes for himself and all of his students and hes been using the same set
for many years now, and they are uses daily by himself and his students.
Well, you guys talked me into it! I pulled the trigger on the micro set; each stone is about 4" long and 2" wide. I figure they're all in the finishing range, so a smaller stone really wouldn't matter especially since I'm getting used to my coticule and my c12k both of which are similar in width to the Welsh stones. Once these arrive, I'll have enough stones for a full-natural progression.
Ordered a "Welsh Thuringian" from AJ on Feb. 17th and received it yesterday, the 23rd. One side shows saw marks, the other is smoothed and chamfered, but not lapped flat. Took about 15 to 20 minutes with a worn DMT325 to lap flat, it wasn't far off. Very smooth and dense, but haven't honed with it yet, that comes tomorrow. Overall, I'm pleased with it so far and AJ was very helpful and quick to respond to communications! A true gentleman!!

After reading all the enthusiastic reviews about these hone, I bought the three hone set from AJ as well. I am sorry to say that I was very disapointed with them. The stones that I received were no were near as good as the seller claimed. I thought that it might be my poor hoing skills that were to blame, so I sent them to Sham for evaluation. You can read about is findings at this link. Testing melynllyn ,dragons tongue, slate, yellow lake stone.

Because I did't drink the Cool Aid. It's not only me who had horrendous resuls. Sham tested them and came to the same conclusion. But you already knew that because you are a member of Razor and Stone and you could not accept his findings there either. I'm sorry but the truth hurts some times.
