Sudden HAD attack. Worth being in the doghouse?
I've been wanting a translucent Arkansas stone. When I saw this I had to have it:
eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices
So I had to spend my spending money from next month, five days early. That's against the rules in my house.....and I'm the one who came up with the rules.

Congratulations, that's a beauty. Thanks for sharing, please post more pics when you get it. Make sure it's flat prior to use, and don't drop it on a hard surface. Have fun.

It's an Hard Arkansas that is somewhat translucent but it's not a Translucent Arkansas. It should be a decent stone for sharpening knives.

It's not a dumb question at all. Arkansas stones are incredibly hard and slow. I have tried a couple Soft and Hard Arkies and I think these chip a razor's edge. These produced a scary sound when honing razors. Because I've only tried a couple others may work fine or I just wasn't careful enough, but they will be slow. I've read the Black and Translucent Arkies are fine for razor use. There should be pictures of these at the forum.
I still have a vintage Soft and Hard (or at least I suspect they are) and I use them for knives and scissors. They are pretty coarse, I've seen them described as being respectivey 1-2k and 3-4k.Last edited by Piet; 03-25-2012 at 06:57 PM.

Thanked: 4249+1 for that statement and nowhere on the packaging of the stone claims to be a translucent and even more that norton does have for sale a real translucent stone look here!
