    FWIW, I lapped my thuringian on a $1.85 piece of granite from lowes and about $2.00 worth of sandpaper.

    Update, I worked on my 4k/8k on the high side and got is pretty level, then did about 4 grids and now it is nice and flat minus the stone I wasted lapping too far. Thanks all.
