Default ITSAPEECH barber hone - i need info and experience from others

    Hi,

There is hardly any info regarding the ITSAPEECH barber hone.
There are some old info that they are excellent finishing hones, much finer then Swatys, and can replace a natural finisher.

Do we have any ITSAPEECH hone owner that can share information and experience?

I do have some very nice natural stones that I will use in the future when a learn more about honing.

For now I have sucessfully done excellent honingand great results with barbers hone only:
Aloxite supefine hone 200 -> Carborundum 102 -> vintage thuringian (small celebrated water hone / natural)

I would like to try to replace the vintage thuringian with a ITSAPEECH barber hone in the last finishing phase of honing.

Do we have any ITSAPEECH hone owner that can share information and experience? PLEASE SPEAK UP
How is it? How fast is it? How do you use it etc etc?

UTOPIAN, I have a feeling that you alot about ITSAPEECH hones aswell as you do for carborundums

Barbers Hones are made to maintain a shave ready edge, you should get better results using a thuringian in the last finishing phase of honing.

I understand that is the common approach and answer. That is why i wondered if there is something different with itsapeech barber barber hones.

I had one for a time and I can only say , that out of probably a dozen barber hones, it was a favorite. I used it, when I used it, as barber hones are traditionally used. To touch up a blade that need a little 'more' in the midst of a shave. I got rid of all of my barber hones but one. A long Swaty. I only kept the one to have one since I don't really use them. If a razor needs more keenness I bring it back to the regular hones. Anyway, IME the itsapeech is one of the top barber hones. BTW, I've used barber hones with lather, water, and dry. I pretty much settled on dry. Experiment for yourself to see which way works best for you.

Unless the hone is really out of whack I don't lap a barber hone. I use Comet cleanser , or something like that, and a scrub brush, to remove any residual grunge. I think the original finish may be better than the roughness of a lapped surface and they are hard to get back to the smoothness of the original finish. It can be done but it is a lot of work. FWIW, the barbers I knew well in the 1980s discussed hones with me a lot and not one ever mentioned lapping/flattening. Good luck with your itsapeech, they are good hones.

Thanks Jimmy, i just got a itsapeech and also a diamond king st louis with a nice tin can (bough the diamond king for the shelf collection because of the tin looks).
Ill try them out as soon as I get them.

No more hone buying for me. ill take my time and try everything I have and keep the things i like and maybe sell of the rest.

I also got a 2 different Aloxite 200 hones. One is made by carborundom niagara and is stated for razors use, and the other one which is my favorite so far just states Aloxite superfine hone 200 (does not mention razors) and is made by carborundum manchester, UK. The later UK one is smooth but I have managed to easily and nicely set a bevel with that one on several razors.

I think I still have a couple of these and a few others from the old Tilly hones. I'll have to look through the Arsenal .........The It's a Peach was definitely one of the better ones, but all were quite functional.

    Have fun.

I used to have one of those. As I recall I got that one with similar two sided one called a peaches and cream. Either way it's a very good finishing hone.
