Pretty sure constant submersion is ok if you add a little bleach to the water to prevent algae.

I use single grit, not combo, norton 4/8. The 8, according to the norton literature, doesn't need to be soaked at all. I keep the 4 in a rubbermaid container of water but it is tightly sealed. No problems with algae or mold. My chosera 1k has to be submerged for 15 or 20 minutes but the company says soaking longer is not advisable so I keep it in the dry until ready for use. So if you're going to leave your combo in water a tightly sealed container would work, but I'm not sure if it is good for the 8k side.

It's rare but I have heard of the 4/8 combo coming apart when soaked too long. All you have to do is glue them back together with some waterproof glue but it's still a bother. I store mine dry. Like said before who can't find something to do for twenty minutes while it soaks?
