You aren't seeing things, I saw the stone which you are referring to on Olivia's site, however in my opinion this is a Schwedenstein and not a Thuringian. These come from a different part of Germany, Saxon as Piet recommends and I believe I have read also elsewhere. They are comparable to vintage Thuringians and are often variegated in appearance and because of the variegations, often very thinly cut.

Here are some pictures of a few different brown natural finishing stones. The Fox hone has a label. All perform best with oil. All behave very different.

I have tested and used these ultra-fine finishing stones. The small brown paddle hone is used the most. Only “good” razors can be used on this stone. This type of stone can be stamped on the side fine, very fine, extra fine or extra extra fine..
The brown stone that has the blue inclusions behaves similar to a thuringian but is a harder finer stone. This is why you can use oil. It is probably from the Vosges mountain region too.

Thanked: 20Awesome information, as I stated before, where else in the world will a person get this type and wealth of information than on this site, man this is great, I rest assured that my question is answered. No such thing as a brown Thuringian but another type of unique type of stone I have never heard of, I will keep honing and learning. Thank you very much everybody for you input, I have again learned more and gained more knowledge on the art of honing and hone types. Keep on trucking, Rudy!
