    Default Help with hone

Went to the local flea market today and picked up a nice little hone. It's a pike strop hone. I find it very interesting as it one side is a hone and the other is a strop. I wash wondering if anyone has any information on these, what it's worth, and is it a good find? Oh I forgot to mention I got it for $8.

pic will help with your gathering info on the stone.
As far as price, we do not valuate items on SRP, if you bought it then obviously the price was right for you.

The pike strop hone is a nice barber hone. It is in the 8k range as most barber hones are. If the hone is not cracked or chipped and just dirty soap and water should clean it up and a rag soaked in kerosene should restore it to close to its original finish. If it is chipped or cracked you will have to lap it.

The strop side on these normally don't hold up well. So if you want to use the strop side you will most likely have to replace the leather.

Pike is also a good name in hones. They were nortons main competition for a long time before norton bought pike
