Default Black "Edison" Barber's hone -What have I got?

    Greetings everyone,

I went to the flea market today and picked up a black "stone" marked Edison. (It's hard to read in the photos, but it's much clearer in person.) I'm assuming it's a Barber's hone, but it didn't come with a box or anything. Other than rinsing it off, I haven't done anything with it yet, as you can see by the pictures below. I tried searching this forum, the B&B forum, and Google, but I didn't find any info on this hone. Can anyone tell me whether it's a decent one and what grit it might be? I only paid $2 for it, so I don't have much to lose. Thanks.

Most barber hones were all made by the same company with different name dies. It's probably a typical finishing hone though there are some which are coarser. You need to use it to determine the type of hone it is. Maybe someone familiar will come along and save you that trouble.

She looks like a great hone that needs a little TLC.
She might need to be lapped & edges worked a little.
    For $2.00, a great find.

I often wonder that. I couldn't imagine each razor brand Also having their own ceramics plant. A few of the ones I have look like they were made on the same day but with different names. Thanks for clearing that up. Would be interesting if we knew which were made where. It would really effect what we wanted to pay for them!
