Thanked: 66hone help please.
I picked this little hone up at a flea market for $3 I didn't think much about it, and mainly got it for the wood box. but after lapping it, I am amazed at how smooth and fine grit it is. it feels like silky glass on that lighter colored surface. I have to say by touch alone, this would have to be the finest grit stone I have now. I assume this is a manufactured stone, by how it laps. the slurry gets very thick and gummy almost like glue, but that could just be the old oil soaked into it.
my question, it has had oil used on it in the past, should I deep clean it so I can use water in the future? or is it suppose to use oil?
also, anyone know anything about it? I have seen similar stones in the past but they always have a label on the side.

I don't know the stone and though I've never done it myself, I've heard Easy Off Oven Cleaner (blue label is odorless) is good to clean a stone of oil. I would maybe try it with oil and if I was curious enough I'd clean it as mentioned above and try it with water. If you like it well enough with oil don't bother with the cleaning and water. Just IMHO.

Thanked: 433I've taken some TSP and dawn dish soap and put it in a junk pan with enough water to cover the stone and boiled it for about 1/2-3/4 hours (bring it up to a boil with the stone in the liquid, use tongs and pull it out when done and let it cool) this has done wonders to some Arkansas stones of mine, it might work on yours.
