    Default Hone pool tub problem

I read a long time ago that some of you guys will put a small cap full of bleach into your hone pool tubs to delay the buildup of algae. Well I didn't do it for a long time because of what I knew of bleach but decided to try it last night anyways. After honing a razor with on my stones rust spots started to appear and that was with an extreme dilution and with fresh water constantly sprayed onto my hones. I should learn to trust my instincts, live and learn I guess. Anyone else had this happen because I know different types of steels rust faster than others depending on there alloy.

Its usually a capufll of bleach into a tub of distilled water, but I don't think that would have made a difference. Did this razor show any signs of degradation prior?

No it was a polished razor, I already repolished the spots out and then changed the water back to just well water. I already knew bleach speeds up oxidation but I'm betting it's just different steel alloys react differently. Just wondered if anyone had a similar experience.

Actually it's not a small capful but a few drops of bleach. I would guess you had too much if it caused the problem you are describing.

    Storage tub -vs- Honing water
These two things are exclusive in Glen's world

I store my Norton's, and King 1k in a two gallon closed tub of Distilled water with about 1/4 teaspoon of Bleach in there, but I do not use that water to hone with, when I am ready to hone I take the stone out of the tub and toss it in a clean water tub or the sink, and start honing I use clean water in the spray bottle and to rinse the stones...,

Now that's the answer I needed. I think I'm just going to change the water every week as usual. Thanks Glen for clearing up my problem.
