    Default Help identify this stone?

I bought this stone at Home Depot a few years ago. It has two sides, a reddish brown side and a yellowish brown side. The sides are separated by a black plastic separator. It only says "Made in Japan". The original box had the grits listed but I have lost them. I do remember it was in the thousands. The yellowish side feels smoother. HD apparently doesnt sell them anymore so I can't find it there.

    Thanks,
    Dave

Yup. Looks like a King. The reddish side is the 800 and the whitish side is 4k. It is a slower cutter than most synthetics but, in my opinion, it leaves a better finish.

It is a King stone. Here is a King Icebear which is 1K (more like 2K),dark side and 6K light side. I got mine from Neil MIller some years back so I do not know if the Home Depot carried them. They are nice stones. Soak for about 15 min in water prior to honing. They need to be lapped flat as they will dish out faster than some. Hope this helps some.
