Thanked: 66My kids and wife have been making fun of me, they caught me licking and smelling a hone yesterday. They just don't understand....
But they are supportive, Saturday we went on an out of town trip to Wichita and spent all day going to antique stores. Ony found the one stone,,, but it was worth it....

My daughter and family live in Wichita and I've got them sniffing out razor stuff, but there's not much coming up. You sure seem to find quite a bit of stuff around Ponca City, it seems. Things are pretty skimpy down here!!
My wife has given up. I don't even get a head shake any more!! Just a "please get these out of the kitchen".I don't see the problem!!

Thanked: 6690% of my finds are from the local Sunday flea market. Even that big haul of arkys was from there. I spent two weeks just buying odds and ends from the guy, then asked if I could just by everything,, lol.... The blackwell antique malls never have so much as a arky...I think because one of the venders is a big knife dealer, and he picks them up for himself. It's just odd I have never seen a single stone in there... Stillwater never has squat either... I think because a fellow SRP member lives there and grabs them all up.
Also my dad picks up every stone he sees for under 5$. He goes to the fleas in OKC area a good bit. I have been thinking of driving to OKC for a flea market run, do you hit them all? I was thinking about the one near Choctaw.(Mary's ???) .then maybe a run over to old Paris this weekend..

Thanked: 66My main goal right now is to have labled examples of all the popular styles.. I would love to be the guy who can answer questions about stones... There is only one way that will happen.... HAD and time... At least I have my arkys down pat. Now I am just working on learning more about some of the variations of the blacks. Lucky there are only a few...

Stillwater, OSU, is probably the same as Norman, OU. My wife works in Norman and checked a couple of antique stores and was told they sell them as fast as they get them to the college students. It's become very fashionable with them. Also prices are through the roof!! OKC, no, I rode those streets too many years and if at all possible I avoid the place!! I hate driving to Wichita just because I have to go through it. It's combat driving!!!!

Thanked: 66I am probably getting ahead of myself and should wait to ask this after it arrives and I get it cleaned up, but I am doing all the reading I can on coticules tonight..
And I think this is glued to slate right? Which means I don't touch a razor to it...it's just for backing....right?

It's hard to tell from the images. The color looks like slate, but that could be bad "white balance" with his camera. If its as old as it looks, it could be glued to a BBW. If its slate, no don't hone on it. If its BBW you can but most don't recommend using it either.
