This post describes a Welsh stone/piece of slate obtained from the British Isles in an old quarry named the Penrhiw Home Quarry Mill.
The stone was provided to JimmyHad of West Palm Beach, Florida, by a person called Jason01, on Straight Razor Place Forum, around February 2009. JimmyHad held this stone-slate until October 31, 2011. On this date I obtained this stone fron JimmyHad.
This Welsh stone came in rough, basically not finished for honing, condition. I had this stone cut and shaped on November 9, 2011 at Meteor Granite & Marble Company, 311 Ansin Blvd., Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. The person who cut the stone was the business owner Zulton.
Upon returning home, I lapped the stone flat with a DMT 325 & wet sanding paper up to 1200 grit.
I found the slurry to be easily created. The slurry has a light green milky look to it.
I worked a total of three razors on it.
I put the grit around 4000. My edge improved greatly after the Norton 8000.
The stone light green with white clouds of scale in it. It measures at 9" x 1 5/8's"
There is a good posibility that this stone came from the location of the photos taken.
If anyone has more information on this stone, please contribute.
Below are photos involving this stone.
