Thread: Escher – Artificial !

I wouldn't think they would bring the kind of prices natural Escher stones bring but I don't know for sure. I'm not sure how rare they are but before this thread was posted I had never seen or heard of them. IMHO this is a stone that would be more desirable to a collector than a honer. Then again, I may be wrong, perhaps they are the equal of the Chosera stones ?

@JimmyHAD
Agree to what you said. I have not come across many of this stones and don't think they have been exported to the States or somwhere else in high numbers.
So there are not enough stones around to create demand and high prices. It is a collector item as you have said.
Ardspachs info about the russian boxed stone is very interesting. I think the stones made of y/g thuringian powder are older than the coticule-like stones, they might have been the first try IGES did with artificial stones.
During the GDR time eastern germany and therefore also the thuringian area around Sonneberg has been under russian control and the stones exported to russia might have been of this time.
Anyhow the story didn't go well for JGES during the GDR regime. The latest owners were put into prison for several years for no reason at all, the company was taken over by the government, consolidated, renamed and closed after some more years of operation.
That's the end of the Escher story.Last edited by hatzicho; 08-01-2012 at 08:25 PM.
