Thanked: 443Show us some more pictures. If there are any chipped parts, get them in the picture since the chipping pattern can help distinguish between types of stone. Photograph under natural sunlight, too, if you can.
I don't know enough about British hones to offer any ideas, but always follow these threads to learn what I can."These aren't the droids you're looking for." "These aren't the droids we're looking for." "He can go about his business." "You can go about your business."

Thanked: 247I'll toss out a guess of Lyn Idwall. Google it on the forum and check some pics for yourself though.
But many of these things end up being Indian love stones...which are known the world over as being more rare and perfect than the finest hones brought back by Neil Armstrong on his moon mission. Pixelfixed can tell you more about them I'm sure. I haven't yet had the good fortune of finding one for myself.

More important than what it is ..... how well it hones razors. Call it anything you want but is it a hone or a paperweight ?

Thanked: 2027Buying Hones 101,never buy a hone just because it is pretty, never buy a hone on the hope that it may be a great hone unless you know something about hones.
Should you see a hone on ebay that you feel you must have, are experts here that can help you (not me)
If you persist in buying hones, helter/skelter,you may be spending huge sums of denero on just a pile of rocks and end up with what I call indian love stones/AKA A PHUc##ing rock.
Hones are the absolute last thing a novice should even think about, they are the end stage of the learning process of shaving with a straight, stropping, caring for the blade, prep.lathering, yada, yada. the list go's on.
Spend a year learning the basics, learn how to crawl before attempting to walk.
