Thread: Sigma Power Ceramic

I've been thinking about getting the Sigma 13k, I read somewhere that it's actually a finer stone than the shapton 16k. Anyone who owns one of these sigma 13k's I'd like to hear what you think of the stone before taking the plunge.

I routinely use the Shapton 16K, Naniwa 12K and the Sigma 13K. I find the results from all three quite similar. The biggest differences for me is the different feeling on the stones when using them. The Naniwa is softer feeling, the Shapton as expected from a ceramic, is harder feeling and the Sigma is right in the middle. Feedback from all three is very nice in my opinion. I would recommend the Sigma 13 without reservation.

I have used all three. I don't know what the abrasive particle size is quoted for the naniwa, but the 16k glasstone is 0.92 micron and for the sigma power, it's 0.73 micron, I think. Soak the sigma power for 10 minutes if you want it to feel really soft and smooth.

As lynn says, if you do a good job, and especially if you follow with chromium oxide (which I would do with all three of those), you'll not notice much of a difference. I think the SP is the nicest of the three feel wise, but that's always personal preference.

I have the 13K Sigma in my arsenal as well, and use it quite often.
It has a good soft feel to it and leaves a very fine polish on an edge when used right.
I have no problems recommending it either.

For me, it works best with a 5-10 minute soak before use, as it is quite thirsty and will run dry rather quickly if used as a splash and go stone.
