Default Identifying a random Japanese Natural stone

Hi guys- I bought this stone last week. It's 3"+ by 7" It's a waterstone puttied into an old pine base. It leaves a hazy mirror finish with scratches in it. Is it possible to identify a stone like this, or should I just leave well enough alone? I am assuming that its Japanese and it slurries relatively easily. The black is in the stone and doesnt seem to affect anything. Name: rasps 006.jpg

looks like a Jnat, but it has to be lapped and the sides cleaned to tell for sure.
Just by looking at a Jnat it is impossible to say what the mine or strata of origin is.

I think what you got is the canadain stuff.
There are alot of them floating around.
It slurries and takes to water very nicely.
My has alot of cut to it. and a nice smooth edge.
so you did get ya self a nice stone.
bummer my flash changed the color of
    the slurry somehow.

There is no label... The stone is very fine and it looks exactly like labeled stones however - so I assumed it was Magog.
