Seems to me that is the rule rather than the exception with any stone that we use with a slurry. Then again, there are many I haven't tried.

Yes Jimmy, it seems that way, at least with the more popular stones.

I honed with the Zulu-Gray again last night - no slurry, only water. I used Tim Zowada's technique by adding 2 additional layers of tape to the razor's spine. I finished on Crox on Balsa, Crox on felt, then stropped on leather. I produced the finest edge I have "ever" done. The shave was smooth and very sharp. It must be this great stone - I finally have its feel.

I have nothing against using paste and sprays i use them myself, but to get the feel of the stone you should finish with it, meaning not follow it with Crox, but nevertheless its good to hear your getting the finest edge you have ever done.

Do you think the an Escher would improve a Zulu edge or vice versa? Have you put a blade on an Escher after you finished with the Zulu?

    Mark,
I go to Zulu gray from 10k Super Stone and it works great, the edge is better than Escher and on par with a really good Jnat.
