so, i have a question about the stone.. it is recommended to use a diamond plate for slurry.. is this because the stone is so hard that using a slurry stone would simply take to long for most to bother with? or is it because when wanting a slurry for cutting power a coarser slurry from a plate works better then a finer slurry from a slurry stone?

Thanked: 1936Correct me if I'm wrong, you guys are using fine diamond plate or worn down 325 to generate slurry aren't you?

Thanked: 13245Worked 5 razors yesterday with the smoother lapped side and Smith's honing solution, felt much like a good CF,,
Not quite sure which direction I like better yet
Hints:
Sandpaper and slurry production sometimes can be a bad thing as the grit from the sandpaper can become mixed with the stone slurry, this is why the Diamond plates are so effective for this as they don't release grit of their own.. Sandpaper works fine for Lapping because you are going to rinse the stone, but be careful with using it to make slurry...
Nagura and Prep stones breakdown and release their own grit also so the honing matrix changes with different ones and changes in the amount and consistantcy of the slurry (sometimes this is desirable).. Again the Diamond plates don't breakdown so they don't change the matrix..
Just some things to be aware ofLast edited by gssixgun; 11-08-2012 at 04:39 AM.

Thanked: 522I ordered a ZULU 8x3 three weeks ago but haven't been advised as to the disposition of my order. It's tough to be reading about this stone day after day and not be able to try one for myself. More patience is in order.
