Default Need a bit of help

Hello all. I received a stone from my grandfather recently, he knows I got into straight razor shaving and he got me this stone thinking it would be helpful. It is a Dan's Soft Arkansas hone.
I have gone to the company web site and I can not find any pictures of it or any details to the grit of the stone. I am pretty sure that is an oil stone because the paper that came with it says to use honing oil on it.
Now I don't want to use this before I know whether or not this will do harm or good.
I am going to attach some pictures and hopefully with the collective genius here I can get some answers.

    Thanks to all in advance

Well it is most likely an Arkansas stone and for sure an oil stone. If it is a hard ark or a translucent it would be alright for finishing razors to say the 8k level. If it is a soft ark, they are also white IME, it would be real good for knives but not so good for straight razors. Just IMHO.

Based on the info I see on the company's website, it is a "medium" grit stone.

Based on the stone grit chart from sharpeningsupplies.com, this stones seems to be equivalent to a 1000 grit, which is good for sharpening knives and setting a bevel on a SR, but not for regular SR maintenance like a 4K/8K stone.

The stone isn't suitable for open razors. It is a slow oil stone only for knifes and other tools.

Nearly hasn't forgotten. Actually, it is a legendary stone. Once, one of contemporaries has told: "On this stone America is constructed". Meant that the first Americans used it for sharpening of the building tool. I think that now this stone is irrelevant, as slow enough. But, everything, is a history part.
