Mom, I accidentally honed myself...
It began with a beautiful Ebay Red Imp that had pitting in the bevel and at the edge. I used the DC8 to flatten my kitchen stone, an old King 1K/6K. I decided to reset the bevel (without tape) and have my first go at getting a blade ready for face time. Saturated with the great videos posted by members and mentors, I proceed. I finished on the newly acquired Naniwa 12K and stropped. I set the razor aside and continued to shave with my professionally honed razor. Yesterday I pulled out the loupe again and in bright sunlight scanned the edge of the Imp and said...why not? It worked! I can't say I am not still having some issues with the neck hollows (it seems like there is a direction I have not found yet to solve this pesky problem) but overall, I was pretty damn happy. I still plan on getting the recommended armada of stones and of course, like many beginners, I am looking forward to the Mother Earth offerings. But for now, I have two razors, not one, and I am still happy.

Thanked: 247Btw what are mother earth offerings?
When I opened this thread I was expecting to see a lot of blood. As in "Mom I ground my face on some rocks" Instead of, "Mom I honed my razor all by myself". Gosh I need to work on reading comprehension it seems.
Good job! It's a great feeling to hone your own razor and be confident in the result. I'm happy for you!
