    Default Unknown European Hone

Hi all, I have some pictures of a hone I'm thinking about picking up (can't see it physically). It definitely looks natural and is from Europe. The sides have some color on them, not sure if it's bits of label or paint, looks like red and black. I know that's not a lot of information to go on. Any ideas as to what this could be? Thanks.

if you could clean it up and post pics dry, wet, and with slurry it would be easier to take a guess.

Yeah sorry I know that would help a lot but it's on the other side of the Atlantic right now. Just wondering if any information could be had visually.

This would help enormously, from the looks of it in the 3rd pic I will hazard a guess, Turkish moonstone, this is just a guess.

A dirty coticule or a dirty Arkansas are my suppositions. Could it be a devonshire oilstone ?

You owe it to science to buy this, clean it up, and identify it. Future hone buyers will add that data point to the knowledge pool and thank you for it one day. As long as it is not too expensive, of course.

Possibly a dirty coticule in my opinion, but then again it could be many other types of stone once the dirt and grime were removed. It would be a gamble purchase, but only you can decide if it is worth the risk.
